1. The purpose of heat is to prevent the occurrence of cold cracks. Cold cracks are directly related to carbon equivalent. Therefore, to distinguish the carbon equivalent of the material, Q345A (formerly known as 16Mn), GB/T 8163 Q345D carbon equivalent is the same. Q345 has a carbon equivalent of less than 0.3%, and it can be said that the weldability is also (generally, the carbon equivalent of 0.4% is increased by cold crack sensitivity). Therefore, Q345A is usually not preheated. However, when the board is very thick, it is still warmed up due to the rapid cooling. Once used, 20# steel was welded with J422 (E4303). If the plate thickness is above 70mm, there is a high risk of not preheating.

From the welding point of view, when the base material has fewer impurity elements, it is good for controlling welding hot cracks.
3. Of course, since the base material selects GB/T 8163 Q345D material (more expensive than Q345A and less supply), it is generally said to have special use, so the welding material will not be used casually. It is best to use it according to the welding material specification. Preheat the material and preheat it. Because the welding material is not used according to the manufacturer's instructions, the weld performance will be greatly reduced.
